American Reckoning: Resistance and Heart
We are living through fraught times. But we, as a nation, have done so before. Governments have long cast various groups--large segments--of our population as undeserving of the rights on which the nation was founded: indigenous peoples, women, Black and brown people, workers, migrants and immigrants, LGBTQ+ people. As a result, struggles have been necessary. And now they are again, to combat the ways the federal government, becoming increasingly authoritarian, views much of the population and acts in ways we hitherto might not have anticipated: intimidation, financial oppression, censorship, outright thuggery.
The federal government is sliding backwards. We, the people, do not have to. Our program offers outrage, looks at the past, and, mostly, Jacqueline's emotional and historically resonant music. (Her piano features in many of Ken Burns's' documentaries, including "The Civil War" and the upcoming "The American Revolution"). We offer hope, maybe, and certainly encouragement. Please join us.
(I hope you can excuse the need for the charge. Half of any fee that comes my way will go to Cape Cod Women for Change).
Tickets are $20 if purchased online beforehand, on Thacher Hall's website: (www.thacherhall.org/event-details/american-reckoning), or $25 at the door (cash or check).
